Gujarat won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lucknow capitalized on the opportunity, with Mitchell Marsh scoring a brilliant 117 off 64 balls—his first century in the IPL. He was well supported by Nicholas Pooran, who smashed 56 runs off just 27 deliveries. Together, they powered Lucknow to a massive total of 235/2 in 20 overs.
In reply, Gujarat got off to a decent start with contributions from Shubman Gill (35), Jos Buttler (33), Sherfane Rutherford (38), and Shahrukh Khan (57).
