With tensions between India and Pakistan easing following a recent ceasefire, the focus has now shifted back to the IPL 2025 season. The tournament was earlier suspended indefinitely due to security concerns and rising diplomatic strain between the two countries.
According to sources, the BCCI is now considering resuming the tournament from May 15. Foreign players, including those from Australia who had returned home, have reportedly been informed about the possible restart. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that a key meeting will be held today (May 11) to assess the current scenario and chart out the way forward.
Players from several nations had exited India after the suspension. While many returned home, others took the opportunity to travel. The unwillingness of foreign cricketers to remain in India during the heightened tension was one of the main reasons behind the abrupt halt of the tournament. Now, with the situation stabilizing, the chances of IPL 2025 resuming look strong.
Australian media outlet CodeSports has indicated that May 15 is the tentative restart date for the tournament. BCCI officials, the IPL Governing Council, and other stakeholders will discuss potential updates to the schedule and venues during today’s meeting. Final decisions on logistics and the remaining matches are expected to be made soon.
Speaking to the press, Rajeev Shukla said, “Given the improved situation after the ceasefire, we are holding a review meeting on May 11. We will re-evaluate the IPL schedule and explore the most feasible way to complete the season. All factors, including the previously decided venues, will be reviewed again. A final decision will be announced shortly.”
