The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken strict action against Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach Munaf Patel following their thrilling Super Over victory against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The BCCI imposed a fine of 25% of his match fee and added one demerit point for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct during the match played on April 16, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.The fine was imposed under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. According to reports, Munaf Patel engaged in a heated argument with the fourth umpire after being denied permission to send a message to a player on the field. This incident was deemed against the spirit of the game, and Munaf accepted the Level 1 offense and the penalty issued by the match referee. This marks the first instance in IPL 2025 where a support staff member has faced such action.Regarding the match, Delhi Capitals secured a dramatic win against Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over. Both teams were tied at 188 runs after 20 overs, but in the Super Over, Delhi chased down a 12-run target in just four balls, thanks to Mitchell Starc’s brilliant bowling and the batting of KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs. With this victory, Delhi Capitals climbed to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.However, despite the spectacular win, Munaf Patel’s altercation with the umpire stole the headlines. This is the second time this season that Delhi Capitals have faced action from IPL authorities. Earlier, team captain Axar Patel was fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over-rate during a match against Mumbai Indians.
