The historic road leading to the Fateh Minar and Gurdwara Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in Chappar Chiri, Mohali, is in a severe state of disrepair, raising concerns ahead of the annual Sirhind Fateh Divas scheduled for May 12. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parvinder Singh Sohana has warned the Punjab government of mass protests if immediate repair work is not carried out.
Sohana criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, stating that while crores were invested in building the 328-ft tall Fateh Burj—India’s tallest victory tower—the connecting infrastructure has been completely neglected. “This shows the government’s apathy toward Sikh heritage and Punjab’s history,” he said.
Despite repeated pleas over the past three years, no repair work has been done on the approach road, which is now riddled with potholes and broken stretches. Sohana was joined by local leaders including Sarpanch Sohan Singh Chappar Chiri, Shamsher Purkhalvi, Navjot Singh Jyoti, and Sarpanch Gurpreet Singh Tangori, all of whom demanded urgent intervention.
The leaders emphasized that thousands of devotees are expected to visit the site on May 12 for the Fateh Divas, and the current road condition poses serious safety and accessibility issues. They urged the state government to treat the issue as a priority and ensure restoration before the religious event.
